
Yetta Starr is the founder and creative director of Starr Design Associates, Inc., a multidisciplinary design firm founded in 1991. Starr established her own firm following professional practice with interior design, architecture, and manufacturing firms in the US and UK.
After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Design from the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning at the University of Cincinnati, Starr began her professional experience at Herman Miller’s London, UK showroom, a collaborative design studio that interfaced with the manufacturing facility in Bath, England. She later honed her skills in Chicago with Eva Maddox Associates, Perkins + Will, and The Environments Group, encompassing varied projects for corporate, institutional, and manufacturing clients.
Starr’s extensive and varied interior design experience has enabled her to partner with creative industries including product innovation and development manufacturers, production companies, and community special events groups. She has served as a board member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and the Illinois Interior Design Coalition (IIDC), advancing interior design professional standards and legislation. Starr is a contributing writer for business, research, and product development initiatives for several industry trade publications.
Starr is a Registered Interior Designer under the auspices of the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation and is National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certified. She has also earned the designation of LEED Green Associate from the U.S. Green Building Council.
